1. The Completely Amazing Whale House

the whale house, the best airbnb in santa barbara

OK guys, enough messing about: The Whale House is the absolute apex of Santa Barbara’s Airbnbs. Doesn’t it look magnificent? Built in 1978, this frankly out-of-control house was the brainchild of architect Michael Carmichael, who in turn was inspired by early 20th century architect Antonio Gaudi. Four floors of hand-made, Gaudi-inspired wobbly fun await the renters of this incredible space, at a perfectly reasonable $400 a night. Split between a possible nine guests, that works out as a pretty great rate for time spent in such an architectural marvel. Called The Whale House because it kinda looks like a whale, it has a 75 foot long pool running through the courtyard to the guest house that ties the property together the same way the rug tied Lebowski’s room together in the Big Lebowski. The pool even flows into a room connected to the guest house.
